Great Watch - Disinformation Workshop

Voices of Wentworth hosted a practical workshop for people to learn skills and techniques to counter disinformation. The free event, “Disinformation Workshop: Facts + Other Lies”, was held on Tuesday, 14 May at the Paddington RSL.

“Lies, or disinformation affects us all - no one, no issue, no side of the fence is beyond reach,” says Voices of Wentworth volunteer, Delia Burrage.

“Social media has created the perfect environment for lies to thrive, and many in our community are feeling ill-equipped to do anything about it.”

Disinformation is a threat to the health of our democracy. Social media and AI amplify the spread of lies, untruths and fake news.

How can you spot disinformation? How should you respond to it?

Ed Coper, Communication Strategist and author of “Facts and Other Lies”, was keynote speaker at the event and gave insights on how “we” (the global community) have landed in the Disinformation Age, outlining what works and what does not work in stopping the spread.

These learnings were then brought to life through an interactive session facilitated by “edutainer” Lee Constable, science communicator, television presenter and author of the series, “How to Save the Whole Blinkin Planet.”

Community is key in counteracting this threat to our democracy - we hope you enjoy the session.

Thank you so much to the community for coming along and also to the wonderful Paddo RSL and Gertrude & Alice Bookstore.

Felix of Felix Sound and Lights who managed the tech and created the video for us - thank you!!!!

And to all Community Groups who are interested in this topic, please feel free to contact us - we are happy to share our presentation.
